Did the sign really advertise Kern River Surf Co?
Did Bakersfield ever officially promise surfing to incoming motorists?

That depends entirely on who you ask—and how many drinks they have had.
Whether this is an authentic historical reconstruction, a municipal Mandela effect, or something Kern River Surf Co simply remembers better than reality is beside the point. Bakersfield history has never been limited by surviving paperwork.
